Permitted Districts for Breweries, Distilleries, and Taprooms in Reno

Jurisdiction: RenoCode Version: Amended January 14, 2026

The City of Reno permits microbreweries, distilleries, and wineries in all Urban and Employment zoning districts, provided that those in Urban Districts and the Mixed Employment (ME) District do not exceed 50,000 square feet in gross floor area. Complementary uses such as bars, lounges, and taverns—which function as taprooms—are allowed in the same districts, with the exception of the Professional Office (PO) district, where bars are prohibited. Establishments combining alcohol production with food service in specific commercial and industrial zones must limit their lounge areas to 30% of the total floor area and maintain full commercial kitchen operations [Section 18.03.304(b)].

Permitted Zoning Districts

The City of Reno Annexation and Land Development Code classifies the production of alcohol and the operation of drinking establishments under different use categories. "Microbrewery, Distillery, or Winery" refers to the production facility, while "Bar, Lounge, or Tavern" or "Restaurant with Alcohol Service" typically covers the taproom or service component.
